If you aspire to play for your country or you’re simply wanting to bring your game up to a higher standard, then this Real Gap Sports Experience program is the perfect program for you.   Designed for all standards of cricketing ability, the Cricketing Academy aims to customize a training scheme especially for your strengths and weaknesses.  You can also train at the pace you want to go too.

It’s based 100 kilometers outside of the Kiwi capital of Wellington.   It is the ideal environment for aspiring cricketers from abroad in developing the mental, technical and physical aspects of the game.  New Zealand is one of top international teams in the world and also a great place to spend a time out on your gap period, or break from a career.

This amazing opportunity allows you to have twelve, twenty or twenty-four weeks improving your cricket, and you can take part in an excellent cricketing tour during the program.  You’ll have the chance of being pitted against two Australian teams, currently the best cricketing nation in the globe. It will be the litmus test of how well you’ve improved during the academy.

The Cricket Training Programme

Individual Programme - You’ll be expected to be disciplined in your commitment to your own training schedule.   Under the supervision of coaches, you’ll be given a logbook that records your training.  By doing so you’ll have a measurable record of your progress, any issues you need to work on, along with helping your goals to be realistic.

The training will cover the following areas:
  • Gym fitness work and flexibility training.
  • Cricket specific fitness training.
  • Spin bowling skills focusing on target and ball revolution
  • Bowling machine sessions to improve batting and wicket keeping
  • Fielding skills and a variety of fielding practice drills
  • Pace bowling development - looking at bowling action, run up etc
  • Regular video analysis of player's techniques
  • Group net sessions with other academy players

Every day will be a mixture of the above training exercises, with an emphasis on the skills/areas each student selects to develop

Accommodation and Meals

You’ll have your own room in a dorm set up at the Academy.  You’ll have access to a communal dining area where you can snack, if you wish.

All academy students eat three meals daily in the dining room of the Academy.  However during the school holidays during the summer, (Dec 20th to latter part of Jan) the hall is closed and students need to cook their own meals (pre-pared in advance by staff of Academy).  There are though numerous chances for relaxed, fun BBQs during the period.
