Gap Year Expedition - India
The India Expedition is an excellent programme if you are looking to do an adventure expedition in Asia. Like Real Gap's other volunteer expeditions abroad, it combines travel, adventure and volunteer work, so the programme is full of rewarding experiences for your gap year or career break.
The India ExpeditionThe India Gap Year Expedition starts in Delhi where you will experience first hand the magnificent contrasts between old and new India. Your trips will include a visit to Gandhi’s memorial, India Gate and some of the famous Delhi markets. You will then move on to the holy city of Haridwar and visit the steps (Ghats) of the holy Ganges where the Hindu population meet to worship and enjoy family time by the river. You will also visit Rishikesh – famous for its yoga.
The expedition continues on to the pink city of Jaipur and then a safari on a tiger reserve. You finally reach Agra to see the Taj Mahal which is considered to be the finest example of Mughal architecture.
The Volunteer Work
Your voluntary work will include teaching English to children in local village schools close to the old colonial city of Darjeeling in West Bengal. The volunteer groups integrate into the community and join in with any local festivals and celebrations.
You are welcome to bring your own resources and ideas to help you to teach and suggestions and initiatives for extra curricular activities are always welcomed.
Expedition Location
The expedition begins in Delhi before moving on to Haridwar, Rishikesh and Jaipur. The group then travels to the tiger reserve for the safari and then on to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal. The final location is Darjeeling where you will complete the volunteer phase of the expedition.
