You will play a vital role in coaching football to the many enthusiastic young footballers who haven’t had many opportunities to play with a real ball, let alone receive structured football coaching. In addition, you will make valuable contributions in local community projects, reinforcing your volunteer efforts on a wider community basis.

Volunteer Role

You will work with a number of orphanages and schools in central Livingstone, focusing on coaching football to children during school and out-of-school hours. Schools in Livingstone operate on a “Hot-Seat system”, where the children take it in turns to attend school. Some schools have up to three different sessions a day, meaning that normally two thirds of children are not at school at any one time. Because of this, you will find that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of enthusiastic young children looking for something to do to fill their free time.

You will be working with our local coordinator, an FA accredited football coach; you will be trained to the rank of an FA Level 1 coach. You will then be given a school to work in, in which you can coordinate the football training sessions on the school fields. You have the chance to be involved with the following activities:
  • Coaching and match/tournament organization
  • Identification of children with extraordinary talent
  • Operation of a high-performance academy to further develop the skills of the highly talented children identified through this project.

Location

Livingstone, Zambia

Accommodation and Meals

You can stay in our volunteer house, a simple but comfortable house, which has its own cook and laundry/cleaning ladies.  All meals, laundry and transportation to and from the projects and tourist activities are be provided and organized by your volunteer coordinator.

We find that having volunteers living together and working closely together with their volunteer coordinators is the best way of guaranteeing their safety and addressing their most pressing needs.

You receive three meals daily. Note: Sometimes, at weekends, you will be cooking your own meals with provided ingredients.  Weekends are normally good times for tourist activities and exploring the surrounding area, so a lot of volunteers are out and about at this time.
